CSSB guidelines state that Certi-label™ shakes and shingles must be installed with two fasteners per piece. Within 15 miles of salt water, Type 316 stainless steel nails are required, while outside coastal zones, Type 304 or 316 stainless steel or hot-dipped galvanized nails are acceptable. Stainless steel nails provide the highest level of corrosion resistance.
